Eyelid and Orbital Anatomical Dissection Lab, USC School of Medicine

We hosted our annual Eyelid and Orbital Anatomical Dissection Lab today at USC’s very own medical school anatomy lab. Bodies donated to the medical education were used for our eyelid and orbital dissection and the course was provided for fellows, residents, and medical students rotating on the Ophthalmology rotation.

Faculty members were present to help with the course and we had a wonderful time learning together. Areas that we covered were:

1) Basic eyelid anatomy
2) Approach to upper and lower lid blepharoplasty
3) Approach for lateral canthal incisions (canthotomy/cantholysis)
4) Orbital surgery and approach for orbital fracture repairs
5) Brow and midface anatomy
6) Tear duct anatomy (dacryocystorhinostomy – DCR surgery)
