Reconstructive surgery of the eyelids and its surrounding structures can repair defects commonly arising following trauma or tumor (ie skin cancer) removal. Although reconstruction is not required in all cases of injury or tumor removal, it is often indicated when there are larger defects that extend through the entire eyelid. In many of these cases with large defects, Dr. Zoumalan will need to use the surrounding tissues (referred to as ”flaps”) or transfer skin from other parts of the face or body (referred to as “skin grafts”) to complete the reconstruction.
