FAQ & Answers
How do I know if I have ptosis?
- Ptosis is a condition where one or both upper eyelid margins droop lower than normal. Ptosis varies in severity, from barely noticeable to significantly impacting vision. Ptosis can be congenital or develop over time due to aging, nerve or muscle issues, or after trauma.
- During your consultation, Dr. Zoumalan measures the distance between the center of the pupil and the upper eyelid margin to assess the degree of your ptosis. The normal distance can vary from 2 to 4 mm, depending on your ethnicity. If the distance is less than 2mm, you may have ptosis. In addition to this measurement, Dr. Zoumalan assesses your eyelid muscle strength, asymmetry between the eyes, and eyelid crease position to formulate his diagnosis.
