Natural Looking Blepharoplasty® Beverly Hills | Dr. Christopher Zoumalan

You have seen eyelid surgery that announces itself. Hollow upper lids, a startled brow, eyes that no longer match the face around them. If that is why you have not booked anything, the hesitation is reasonable. Natural Looking Blepharoplasty® takes less skin, repositions fat rather than removing it, and adds volume where the area has thinned.

Dr. Christopher Zoumalan developed the technique over 21 years of practice as a board-certified ophthalmologist with ASOPRS fellowship training. He sees the alternative regularly, in patients who come for revision after too much was taken.

What Is Natural Looking Blepharoplasty®?

Natural Looking Blepharoplasty® is a conservative approach to cosmetic eyelid surgery, applied across the periorbital region rather than as a single operation. It removes less upper eyelid skin than conventional technique, repositions lower eyelid fat instead of excising it, and adds fat grafting, injectable fillers or skin resurfacing where the surrounding area needs volume or texture rather than subtraction.

Natural looking eyelid surgery addresses:

  • Excess skin, loose eyelid skin and hooded eyes across the upper lids
  • Under-eye bags, puffy eyelids and fat pockets along the lash line
  • Hollowing at the lid cheek junction and in the tear troughs
  • Wrinkles and creases in delicate eyelid skin
  • A tired appearance that rest does not improve

Ideal candidates are typically between 25 and 70, though inherited lower eyelid bags bring some patients in earlier. Good health and realistic outcome expectations matter more than age.

The goal is a refreshed look with no change to your natural eye shape, a preserved natural contour, no hollowing where fat used to sit, and a more youthful appearance in facial harmony with the rest of your face.

Why Choose Dr. Zoumalan for Natural Looking Eyelid Surgery?

Choosing the surgeon decides this outcome more than the technique does, because the difference between a rested result and an operated one is how much a surgeon leaves alone. A general plastic surgeon operates across the whole body; an oculoplastic surgeon works only on the eyelid and orbit.

  • Exclusive Specialization: Dr. Zoumalan focuses exclusively on cosmetic eyelid procedures and reconstructive periorbital surgery. He does not perform facelifts or body contouring.
  • Credentials & Subspecialty Training: Board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and fellowship-trained through the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, in the functional anatomy of the eyelid: the orbital septum, the levator aponeurosis, the supratarsal crease and the orbicularis muscle. There is no board certification for oculoplastic surgery specifically; the ASOPRS fellowship is the most prestigious subspecialty training in the field. Review his full credentials.
  • Extensive Experience: Over 21 years and more than 9,000 procedures, including revisional eyelid surgery for patients left hollowed by another surgeon’s eyelid lift. Seeing how an eyelid goes wrong is what informs how much to preserve.
  • Natural Results Philosophy: He works to a “less is more” standard, creating subtle changes that refresh your appearance without looking overdone. The before and after photos are the honest test of it.
  • Academic Excellence: operating at the Quad A accredited Innovate Surgery Center he co-founded, Individual results may vary. Outcomes depend on age, skin quality, healing, and adherence to post-operative instructions.

The Natural Looking Blepharoplasty® Process

See what conservative eyelid surgery would look like on your eyes before you commit to anything.

For The Upper Eyelids

In the upper lids, Dr. Zoumalan carefully removes the right amount of excess skin while preserving your underling structures including the muscle and deep fat structures. In doing so, the volume in the upper lids remains preserved while the eyelid is rejuvenated.

For The Lower Eyelids

In lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Zoumalan will remove excess fat but also mobilize (or reposition) some of the excess fat to improve the hollowing below the eyelid.  Fat repositioning helps improves the volume loss that some patients have along the eyelid/cheek area. Rather than completely removing the excess fat, Dr. Zoumalan utilizes the excess fat to improve hollowing in the surrounding eyelid/cheek area. In cases where there is significant volume loss around the eyelid/cheek area, fat repositioning may not be adequate to address the hollowing.

Fat Grafting and Injectable Fillers to Surrounding Volume Loss in Cheek and Midface

In cases of significant volume loss around the eyelid area such as the cheek and midface, fat repositioning alone may not address the volume loss. In such cases Dr. Zoumalan may discuss other options such as fat grafting at the same time of blepharoplasty surgery and/or injectable fillers that can be done in the Beverly Hills office at a later date. Dr. Zoumalan may incorporate fat grafting in addition to fat repositioning where small, finely prepared fat is taken from the patient’s abdominal fat and carefully injected to the cheek and midface area using a microcanula technique. Dr. Zoumalan also uses a microcanula technique for his in office injectable fillers around the eyelid area. Dr. Zoumalan will examine you and determine what you would best benefit from.

Skin Resurfacing

Skin resurfacing is usually performed to address the excess skin during a Natural Looking Blepharoplasty®. Dr. Zoumalan’s technique helps deliver a result where the wrinkles in the skin are improved often without undergoing removal of skin.  In most cases, no external incision in the lower lid is required and the eyelid shape is not changed in the corner of the eyelid, hence leaving the patient still looking like themselves but having a refreshed improvement in their eyelids.

Combining Natural Looking Blepharoplasty® with Other Eyelid Procedures

Many patients treat one eyelid area on its own, and many treat the whole eye area in one sitting. Dr. Zoumalan will tell you at consultation whether combining makes sense for your anatomy.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Upper blepharoplasty treats the hooding and excess skin that sits above the eye. It is frequently performed on its own, where the lower lids need nothing.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Lower blepharoplasty addresses the under-eye bags, puffiness and hollowing that upper lid work does not touch. Dr. Zoumalan repositions fat rather than removing it, which is what keeps the lower lid from looking hollow afterward. It is just as often performed alone.

Quad Blepharoplasty

Upper and lower blepharoplasty performed in one session. You get a single recovery period and one anesthesia event, and the result reads as balanced rather than a refreshed upper lid sitting above an untreated lower one.

Brow Lift Surgery

When a low brow pushes skin down onto the lid, lifting the brow means less eyelid skin has to come off. This pairing suits patients whose hooding is coming from brow position rather than from the eyelid itself.

Asian Eyelid Surgery

Crease creation that respects existing eyelid character rather than replacing it, performed alongside or instead of a standard upper lid approach.

Ideal Candidates for Natural Looking Blepharoplasty® in Beverly Hills

  • Age and health: Most patients are between 25 and 70, though age alone does not determine candidacy. A good candidate is in good overall health, holds realistic outcome expectations, and does not smoke.
  • Specific concerns: Excess skin on the upper eyelids, drooping eyelids and puffiness that rest does not improve, a chronically tired appearance, and patients who want natural looking results rather than a dramatic change. Where excess skin obstructs the field of vision, upper eyelid surgery may serve a functional purpose as well as a cosmetic one.
  • Medical considerations: Thyroid disease and severe dry eyes affect candidacy and surgical planning. Dr. Zoumalan evaluates brow position and lid tone to determine whether the eyelid is the real problem, and where the eyelid margin sits low he will recommend ptosis repair instead. Patients considering revision blepharoplasty are asked to bring their operative history.

A consultation with Dr. Zoumalan is required to determine whether you are a candidate for this procedure and to discuss outcomes specific to your case.

Natural Looking Blepharoplasty® Cost and Financing in Beverly Hills

The cost of a natural looking blepharoplasty depends on the complexity of your case: whether upper lids, lower lids or both are treated, the surgical technique required, whether fat grafting or skin resurfacing is included, the anesthesia type, and facility fees. Rather than publish a figure that would not apply to you, Dr. Zoumalan prices each case individually. Our Patient Care Coordinator gives you a range before your consultation, and the written itemized quote covering surgeon, facility and anesthesia fees is finalized once Dr. Zoumalan has assessed you in person, with no surprise charges. Flexible financing options are available through PatientFi, including zero-interest payment plans, monthly payment options and a quick approval process. Cosmetic eyelid surgery is not covered by insurance; functional concerns affecting the upper lids may qualify in some cases, though coverage varies by plan and is never guaranteed, and visual field testing determines medical necessity.

Frequently Asked Questions About Natural Looking Blepharoplasty®

Will people be able to tell I had eyelid surgery?

The goal of this technique is that they cannot. Because upper lid volume is preserved, lower lid fat is repositioned rather than removed, and the eyelid corner is left undisturbed, most patients report that others notice a refreshed look without identifying surgery.

Most unnatural results trace to over-resection: removing too much upper eyelid skin, which exposes the eyelid platform and deepens the sulcus, or excising lower eyelid fat instead of repositioning it, which empties the compartment supporting the lid cheek junction. Altering lid contour at the outer corner is a third common cause.

In most cases, no. Upper eyelid incisions sit inside the supratarsal crease, where the natural fold conceals them as healing progresses. Lower eyelid surgery is typically performed through a transconjunctival incision, so no external scar forms. Healing varies by individual.

In some cases. Hollowing and volume loss following a prior blepharoplasty can often be improved with fat grafting or injectable fillers, while changes to eyelid position or contour typically require revisional eyelid surgery. Dr. Zoumalan evaluates prior results individually.

Upper eyelid results are generally long-lasting and most patients do not seek a second procedure. Aging does not stop, so eyelid skin and volume continue to change. Longevity commonly depends on age, skin quality and individual healing.
