Whether you have recently begun noticing fine lines or old acne scars around your face there are various options that can help rejuvenate your skin such as topical cream (retinol), to laser resurfacing, or microneedling with PRP. While there are many popular, effective options available on the market, it is important to find the right option for you and the exact results that you are looking to achieve. One of your more promising options is micro-needling with PRP. For more information on cosmetic facial surgery, reach out to Dr. Zoumalan today.

What is PRP and Microneedling?

Microneedling with PRP is a procedure that helps to restore a youthful appearance to the face and improve the look of fine lines and old scars. This procedure has become popular because it is an effective, minimally invasive option that delivers incredible results. This is achieved through the PRP (Platelet-rich plasma) technique, which uses your own plasma combined with traditional microneedling to achieve the desired look. Unlike laser resurfacing, the downtime with PRP and microneedling is much quicker, and there are potentially fewer issues that can occur during the recovery process. Most patients can return to work the very next day, which is not always the case with laser treatments.

How Does Microneedling with PRP Work?

Before your procedure, Dr. Zoumalan will draw your blood and separate the plasma. From there, he will use a microneedling device, which uses very fine needles to puncture the superficial layers of your skin. The whole process can take 20-40 minutes while you are made comfortable with the use of a high-quality numbing cream. These small punctures vary in depth along the surface of the skin. Microneedling effectively creates micro-level skin injuries which stimulate collagen thickening, thus improving your old scars and fine lines. The procedure can be safely repeated 1-2 more additional times, spaced out every 6-8 weeks.  Multiple procedures continue to improve the areas of your skin that you are bothered with.

Benefits of Choosing Microneedling with PRP

Microneedling with PRP has a multitude of benefits for patients. Here are some of the top reasons that patients continue to seek this procedure out:

  • Minimally invasive
  • Requires low downtime, so there is no need for extensive time off
  • Rejuvenates the skin, creating a more youthful appearance
  • Reduces wrinkles, fine lines, and old acne scars

What is Involved in the Healing Process?

Although you will likely be free to go home after the procedure is complete, it is still important to be educated on the healing process. This will help you be aware of what to expect, as well as what you can do to ensure optimal results.

First, know that after the procedure you may have some redness and swelling. You will be given Skinuva recovery cream to help calm the irritation and allow the skin to heal, but it is important to avoid prolonged sun exposure immediately following your visit.

It is also important to talk to Dr. Zoumalan about how long you should wait to use face wash, wear makeup, etc. If you notice any potential side effects or are experiencing pain after the procedure, make sure to notify Dr. Zoumalan immediately.

How Long Until You See Results?

Fortunately, some patients can see results within a few days, but ultimately collagen thickening can take weeks to months.  After the initial healing is over, it is recommended that you follow up with Dr. Zoumalan annually to check on your results and potentially schedule your next appointment.

To make your amazing results last, make sure to: wear sunscreen and avoid direct exposure to the sun, use gentle cleaning products when cleansing your face, moisturize consistently, and avoiding any additional irritation to your face (i.e. picking, scratching, etc.).

With incredible results, a minimally invasive approach, and little recovery time, micro-needling with PRP is a great way to address unwanted wrinkles. For more information on the procedure, cost, and if it is right for you, contact Dr. Zoumalan today!
