FAQ & Answers

What are blunt-tipped microcannulas and when are they used?

We routinely use blunt-tipped cannulas to perform our hyaluronic acid injections in the office. The most common areas we use the blunt-tipped cannulas include the:

  1. tear trough deformity also known as orbital rim hollowness
  2. mid face volume loss (cheek augmentation)
  3. lip augmentation
  4. nasolabial folds

A cannula is a tube with an edge that is not sharp and designed for atraumatic intradermal injections of fluids. Advantages of using a blunt-tippped cannula instead of a sharp hypodermic needle include:

  1. virtually no bruising
  2. considerably less pain
  3. minimal downtime
  4. single point of entry for wider coverage
  5. production of new collagen
